Margaret Lam is the Founder of BeMused Network, a social-technical enterprise devoted to empowering independent artists and organizations with innovative digital and online services.
She is a published information science researcher, a seasoned print and digital designer, and an advocate for independent and emerging artists. She has a Master of Information Studies (MISt), and a Bachelor’s Degree in music history/ethnomusicology and almost became an academic music librarian.
Margaret’s vision for BeMused Network is to build technologies that will foster meaningful connections within the ecosystem in the arts, and create a sustainable future for our sector. As a trained pianist and experienced arts manager, she is intimately familiar with the challenges confronting independent artists. It is not about making better art, but all about connecting audiences with them in the first place. Her research on music knowledge sharing platforms and systems has been published as journal articles, a book chapter, and presented at conferences on knowledge management, information professionals, ethnomusicology, and digital futures around the world.
Margaret currently writes about digital infrastructure for the arts, and topics at the intersection of culture, technology and the arts. She also occasionally serves as a consultant and advisor to help organizations identify opportunities to bring innovation to the performing arts sector.
